This workshop is for both beginning and experienced mentors (prerequisites: Instructional Mentoring, Observing and Conferencing, and Using Data to Inform Instruction). They will
- Use learning and experiences (from self and others) to inform future mentoring practice.
- Use tools and protocols to support teachers as they plan assessment-driven differentiated instruction aligned to content standards.
- Apply strategies for providing meaningful feedback.
- Reflect upon professional growth and set next steps.
Experienced mentors will find useful not only videos and new opportunities to practice and process the information, but also revised, standards-based lesson planning tools that embed GRR (gradual release of responsibility) and address language-learning needs of the CCSS (Common Core State Standards). It may be helpful to perceive Designing Effective Instruction as an expansion of the end of the discontinued NTC workshop “Analyzing Student Learning.”
Formative Assessment System tools and protocols:
- Planning for Effective Instruction
- Lesson Plan: Backwards Design
- Instructional Groups
