A highly skilled mentor is key to providing new teachers with a strong induction experience that will advance their instructional practice. In the Professional Learning Series (PLS) for Mentors, participants learn the critical knowledge, skills, and tools to initiate and maintain effective mentoring relationships with novice teaches that result in instructional growth. Mentors practice using multiple data points to asses practice and provide meaningful feedback to teachers. The goal is to support teachers to create and sustain Optimal Learning Environments in which the diverse needs of every learner are addressed with an unwavering attention to equity and continuous academic, social, and emotional growth.

This first session in the PLSi series will focus on the following content areas:
- Creating Optimal Learning Environments
- Impact of Mentoring
- Entry Points to Effective Planning
- Examining the Standards to Plan for Effective Instruction
- Building Trust Through the Collaborative Assessment Log
- Aligning Standards to Tasks
- Modeling Mentoring Conversation on Planning
- Explore the purpose of instructional mentoring and the opportunity it provides to create equitable conditions for student Learning
- Examine the components of the instructional coaching cycle and the role that knowing students, standards, and tasks play when planning for effective instruction
- Identify components of Optimal Learning Environments (OLE) and articulate the skills and knowledge teachers need in order to create Optimal Learning Environments for every student
- Use foundational mentoring tools, protocols, and language to support coaching conversations that accelerate teacher practice and student learning

This two-day training runs from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, at the Monona Grove School District Office, third floor, 5301 Monona Drive, Monona. It includes breakfast (7:30 to 8:00) and lunch.
Workshop is $300 per person for DCNTP members; $275 per person for more than one attending from a district. $425 per person for non-members and $400 for two or more.
